Consciousness in Robots :

چکیده
Based on results from evolutionary psychology we discuss important functions that can be served by consciousness in autonomous robots. We distinguish intrinsic intentionality from consciousness, but argue it is also important. Finally we explore the Hard Problem for robots (i.e., whether they can experience subjective awareness) from the perspective of the theory of protophenomena. * This report is an extended version of a paper for 14th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (Aug. 13–15, 2005, Nashville, TN). A Survey in Consciousness in Robots and Future of Reception Robots
This paper presents a story about consciousness and future of reception robots. A prototype version of reception robot is developed at university of Essex for university open days and Features that are mentioned in this paper are mostly based on it. Another part of story is a discussion about consciousness in robots. In this part, it is aimed to provide a picture of consciousness and answer som...
متن کاملConsciousness: Natural and Artificial
Based on results from evolutionary psychology, we discuss important functions that can be served by consciousness in autonomous robots. These include deliberately controlled action, conscious awareness, self-awareness, metacognition, and ego consciousness. We distinguish intrinsic intentionality from consciousness, but argue it is also important to understanding robot cognition. Finally, we exp...
متن کاملSusan Blackmore Consciousness in Meme
Setting aside the problems of recognising consciousness in a machine, this article considers what would be needed for a machine to have human-like consciousness. Human-like consciousness is an illusion; that is, it exists but is not what it appears to be. The illusion that we are a conscious self having a stream of experiences is constructed when memes compete for replication by human hosts. So...
متن کاملArtificial Consciousness for Improving Reinforcement Learning
Reinforcement learning methods are useful for robot learning, but become slow when robots possess many degrees of freedom. We suggest equipping robots with fast on-board simulators, in order to accelerate learning. Such simulators will resemble forms of consciousness, enabling the robots to perform run-time trials in a simulated world, rather than tediously performing them in practice. We have ...
متن کاملTowards Robot Self-consciousness (I): Brain-Inspired Robot Mirror Neuron System Model and Its Application in Mirror Self-recognition
Mirror Self-Recognition is a well accepted test to identify whether an animal is with self-consciousness. Mirror neuron system is believed to be one of the most important biological foundation for Mirror Self-Recognition. Inspired by the biological mirror neuron system of the mammalian brain, we propose a Brain-inspired Robot Mirror Neuron System Model (Robot-MNS-Model) and we apply it to human...
